Color Changing Sapphire Collection

The color changing sapphire is one of gemology's most fascinating phenomena: a single stone shifts color depending on the lighting. Green or blue in daylight, violet or purple under incandescent light.

Color Changing Sapphire: Optical Magic in Corundum

Like alexandrite, color changing sapphires shift hue depending on the light source. This rare phenomenon is caused by vanadium and chromium that absorb natural and artificial light differently.

Extreme Rarity

Color changing sapphires represent a tiny fraction of world production. 9 Mohs hardness, more durable than alexandrite (8.5 Mohs).

Questions fréquentes

How does the color change work?
Vanadium and chromium absorb different wavelengths. In daylight (blue-rich), the stone appears green or blue. Under incandescent light (red-rich), it becomes violet or purple.
Color changing sapphire vs alexandrite?
Both change color, but sapphire is harder (9 vs 8.5 Mohs) and often more accessible in price. Alexandrite remains more famous and expensive.
Are these sapphires rare?
Very rare. Sapphires with strong color change represent a tiny fraction of world production.
Is the color change permanent?
Yes, it's a stable optical phenomenon tied to the crystal's chemistry. It does not fade over time.
