The treatment gap most sellers won't mention

Mogok, Myanmar, has been the most important ruby source since the fifteenth century (per GIA), and "Burmese" became shorthand for top color regardless of where a stone was actually dug. Mozambique now supplies a huge share of the world's fine ruby. The thing worth repeating: Mogok yields both ruby and pink sapphire from the same ground, because it's all corundum with more or less chromium.
